PHPEdit 3.0+ is written targeting the .NET 2 framework, so you need to have it installed on your computer to run PHPEdit. Once we start the multiplatform port, you will need to install Mono on your Linux/MacOSX machine.

Numbering

3.0 beta builds have 2.999 as major/minor version number. The naming system is the following:
Even minor version numbers designate stable versions (like 2.10, 2.12, 3.0, 3.2....) and odd minor
numbers, beta testing versions (2.999, 3.1, 3.3, etc...).

Beta snapshots are not stable

Yes it's the point, but be careful. We strongly recommend using backup solutions, source versioning systems like Svn to make sure that you will never loose your files.
