Downloading the snapshots
The beta snapshots can be found in your extranet at this address:
On this page you will find all the latest snapshots, the new ones on top of the list. A PHPEdit beta snapshot is composed of several files:
An installer containing the main files, and several packages for the 3rd party modules that are usually shipped with PHPEdit. Since these 3rd party modules are updated less frequently than PHPEdit itself, they have been packaged outside of the installer to reduce its size and avoid redownloading it every time.
Also they are optional, so you can decide which module you want to download and install.
When you are on the beta download page, you will find a list with at the top the following block:
Download all the packages you want, at least the installer (the installer is named PHPEdit in this list) and put them all in the same folder on your disk.
Installing the snapshot
Once you downloaded all the packages you want, make sure to put them all the the same folder. It can be placed anywhere, as long as you put all the files (.exe and .PHPEditPackage) in the same folder.
Then run the .exe to start installing the snapshot. For each new snapshot you are offered to install in a new directory named like the snapshot's version number. You can browse to an other directory, but if you choose a directory with an existing installation of PHPEdit you will be offered to uninstall the previous version (installation will not continue if you don't). It's important to install PHPEdit in a clean empty directory to avoid conflicts with previous versions. It's recommended to keep the previous snapshot or a stable version in an other directory in case the new snapshot is nuked.
Once PHPEdit is installed, don't delete the .PHPEditPackage files. There's a good chance they will still be up to date for the next snapshot, so you can keep them in this directory, and for the next snapshot you will just have to download the .exe, put it in this directory and run it.
If a .PHPEditPackage is updated, just download it, put it in that same folder and run the installer, it will always use the newest packages if it finds several packages.
And you are done!
You can now run your new cutting edge snapshot of PHPEdit!
